In October 2002 a friend and I went to the Red Sea once more, to visit some of the most stunning diving spots in the Red Sea, if not worldwide!

Ras Muhammed at the south tip of the Sinai peninsula with Shark and Yolanda Reef and Anemone City.

The Strait of Tiran with four 5*-diving reefs: Gordon, Jackson, Thomas and Woodhouse are famous, they get the current pushing through the strait, sometimes very tricky for divers.

On the south-western tip of the Sinai lies the wreck of the Thistlegorm, a lightly armed transport vessel with a cargo of trucks, motorcycles, rubber boots and ammo of gigantic size.

Not far away ly the remains of the wooden vessel Dunraven, steam and sail ship of the 19th century.

Tourism has exploded in the recent years.  I was somewhat shocked by the enormous capacity of accomodation, mostly in the form of closed resorts that spread out along the coast between the actual Sharm el Sheikh and Na'ama Bay, and most recently even further north from Na'ama bay towards the airport.

As well, the number of diving vessels has increased dramatically.  At night, most of them are anchored in the bay of Sharm el Sheikh, many more stay at the jetty in Na'ama Bay.

Let's hope -and do our best- that this place doesn't get spoiled much more, as many local residents and national and international investors strive to make the big buck, at whatever cost to the environment, which is their actual source for income.
